DESCRIPTION:
Guitarist/ composer, A. Spencer Barefield has taken his world-class skills across the United States, Canada, Europe and elsewhere as a leader and sideman with Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Richard Davis, Oliver Lake, Andrew Cyrille, James Carter, Regina Carter and others. He received a 2010 Kresge Arts fellowship, the most recent of numerous awards including those from the National Endowment for the Arts, Michigan Council for the Arts, Arts Midwest, Meet the Composer, Arts International and others, over the years. His numerous recordings have achieved world wide critical acclaim. 

Toronto-based bassist Dave Young spent many of his years laying down grooves for pianist Oscar Peterson, as well as having been a member of the Edmonton Symphony, the Winnipeg Symphony and the Hamilton Philharmonic. Young has swung with musicians such as Lenny Breau, Clark Terry, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Joe Williams, Kenny Burrell, Hank Jones and many others, in addition to having won a JUNO Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy). 

Saxophonist David McMurray has released four CDs as a leader, the first on the Warner label, The David McMurray Show followed by Piece of Mind, Afro Cubano Chantâ and his latest release Soul Searching on the HipBop/Silva Screen label featuring Pam Wise, Marion Hayden, Wayne Gerard, Louis Resto and others. He has performed and recorded internationally with Geri Allen, Terrance Blanchard, Albert King, Herbie Hancock, Bob James, Mark Ishan, Don Was, B52s, Bonny Raitt, Gladys Knight, Griot Galaxy, Kem, Was NotWas, the Rolling Stones, Kid Rock and others. 

Drummer Djallo Djakate Keita is a flexible rhythmist who is equally at home playing ragtime as he is performing the most adventurous modern avant garde. He has toured in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan with Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, appearing in concert and on television and radio. He toured Africa with reggae artist Kareem Baaqi, and has performed with acclaimed Detroiters such as Harold McKinney, Marcus Belgrave, Charlie Gabriel, Teddy Harris, Wendell Harrison, Ralphe Armstrong, Pamela Wise, Kenn Cox, Omawale African Dancers, Sun Drummers, Ras Kente, Taslimah Bey, Harvey Thompson, Faruq Z. Bey, TransMat, Jazzhead, Dub Culture and Ibn Pori Pitts.
